Our Roots

A Bit of Background

The creation of this group began as very personal. In 2013, our founder, Kayla, started her own hobby farm, but when she had questions, there were no local community platforms to be found. There were limited resources to connect with local farms or other chicken hobbyists; which became extremely problematic when needing to locate new breed lines, handle predators, source local feeds, etc. Experiencing all the benefits of chicken-ownership after learning on her own, she envisioned not merely an online group, but a community. A community of people collaborating, supporting, and empowering one another to start, and flourish their own chicken flocks.  We seek to provide high-quality local networking, and resources to our community, small businesses, and little local farms in a safe and secure environment. Our success isn’t measured in terms of wealth or profit margin, but by the value we provide to those we serve. We want to give to our community by enabling members across the nation with all the varied knowledge of chicken-keeping and networking, so that our community may more fully enjoy all the many benefits Chicken-Keeping provides!
